"Five years after the final shot was fired in the War Between the States, Selah Daughtry can barely manage to keep herself, her two younger sisters, and their spinster cousin fed and clothed. With their family's Mississippi plantation swamped by debt and the Big House falling down around them, the only option seems to be giving up their ancestral land.

Pinkerton agent and former Union cavalryman Levi Riggins is investigating a series of robberies and sabotage linked to the impoverished Daughtry plantation. Posing as a hotel management agent for the railroad, he tells Selah he'll help her save her home, but only if it is converted into a hotel. With Selah otherwise engaged with renovations, Levi moves onto the property to "supervise" while he actually attends to his real assignment right under her nose.

Selah isn't sure she entirely trusts the handsome Yankee, but she'd do almost anything to save her home. What she never expected to encounter was his assault on her heart.

A Rebel Heart by Beth White Review.

This was such a sweet enjoyable book!! I’m so excited for book two, especially since it’s about my favorite Daughtry sister, Joelle. :D

This book was off to a rolling, intriguing start with a train wreck where Selah and Levi met Wyatt who was a loyal character for the rest of the story. Levi Riggins character was interesting and unique, as was Selah’s!

Selah was an old maid or, so she thought, and it was fun to see her and Riggins become close friends with ups and downs throughout the story. I didn’t get into the mystery until the last fifty pages, but after I did, it was page turning and intriguing. I found Wyatt’s goal in life, or dream very interesting and it supported the storyline well that had a small connection to the mystery.

Joelle!! Ahhh, she was a definition of me! She liked to read all the time and always had her head in a book.  The writing style definitely pulled me in, but I did see a lot more telling than showing which did irritate me some.

There was no content I found disturbing or inappropriate aside from when the Yankees attacked the Daughtry House where a few were hurt afterwards, physically and emotionally. The faith side of it was well done and there was a good message throughout the story.

Overall rating: 4/5 stars. Well done Beth White! The storyline of A Rebel Heart pulled me in from page one, and she captured the time period perfectly. And the gorgeous cover 👏🏻😍! Now that I've finished it, I want to reread it!

**I was sent a free copy from the publisher, Revell in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts are my own.**
